LIMA UMADAOP
The primary purpose of the Urban Minority Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Outreach Programs of Ohio is to:
Increase community understanding of substance abuse by conducting education and awareness programs
Reduce the barriers which prevent early identification and treatment
Provide prevention programming for youth
Increase the awareness and sensitivity of human service providers
Our Philosophy
UMADAOP believes that substance abuse is best treated and prevented when the cultural dynamics of a group are addressed and included in the process of treatment, recovery and education. UMADAOP's philosophy further states that chemical dependency is an illness of the total person, which has physiological, psychological social-cultural and spiritual components and therefore requires a holistic approach.
Recognizing that each community has unique characteristics that must be addressed through prevention applications, Lima-UMADAOP has developed a comprehensive program plan that links prevention strategies with the needs of the community. By creating ATOD and violence prevention systems that prove successful in enhancing resiliency factors, we will be building communities that support and reinforce healthy and positive lifestyles.
Lima-UMADAOP believes that ATOD and violence are best preventable through education. Prevention is education in action. UMADAOP ensures that African and Hispanic/Latino American communities are at the forefront of local, state and national agendas.
